No Show Socks With Pom Poms 10-13

We can never have too many pairs of socks, this time of the year. Well, actually that's not completely true. My sister and I wear socks through the year. Even when it's 45 degrees, you could find us roaming around with socks on. Simply, because we think the design is cute. Our parents think we're a bit ridiculous (if you feel the same way, don't tell me!). This week, we decided to upgrade some of our old socks with these adorable red pom poms. And, they were incredibly easy to make. Read on for the tutorials!

Time taken: 10 minutes per pair

Budget: Low

Materials:

• Pom Poms (here's a tutorial on how you can make them)
• Matching thread
• Socks
• Needle
• Scissors
• Yarn
• Embellishments (optional)

Steps:

These are the simplest custom pom pom socks. In fact, if you have tiny pom poms, you can sew lots of them around the cuff of the sock (yes, the top of a sock is called a cuff. I googled it). The ones we made, were slightly big. So, we sewed them on the back of the sock, just at the ankle. Here's how:

1. Wear the socks and make small markings on where you want the pom pom.
2. Thread the needle and knot the end of the thread. Next, push it from the inside of the cuff outwards and insert the pom pom through it.
3. Push the pom pom to the sock and thread the needle through the pom pom and sock.
4. Thread the pom pom 4-5 times to make sure it's held in place.
5. Repeat for the other foot.

These look like cherries, to me. Which matched the print on the socks really well. Ideally, you want to use a plain long sock for long embellishments like this one. So, that it gets highlighted without getting in the way. For this one, you need to:

1. Wear the socks and mark out where you want the pom poms.
2. Thread 3 pom poms with yarn. We used two sizes of pom poms, 2 small and 1 large.
3. Loop the top of the yarns, at the length you want them to fall. Basically, place them as per height and tie a knot at the end. Cut off the excess of the yarn.
4. Sew the bunch on top of the marking. We looped the yarn about 5 times to secure it completely.
5. The loops from the thread, can be an eyesore. So, we recommend stitching or pasting a small embellishment like a bow or flower on top of it.
6. Repeat the steps for other sock, making sure the bunch is placed on the opposite side of the sock.

My sister calls these clown socks. Which I would find funny, if I wasn't completely terrified of clowns. So, I'm going to call them vaguely clownish socks. To make them, you'll need to:

1. Make three markings, one below the other on the front of the sock. It looks best, if it's exactly in the middle and all three are aligned.
2. Scrunch up the sock and thread the needle through the lowermost marking. Insert the pom pom through the needle and sew it firmly over the marking.
3. Move onto the middle pom pom and then the topmost one, to complete the design.
4. Repeat the steps for the second sock.
